Reviews – Your Legacy

• Lidia Mia Giordano • I was a student in one of Carol’s memoir-writing classes. We used this as our textbook. It’s chock-full of reasons to write your memoirs, as well as writing tips. Most of us didn’t know how to get started (which is why we took her class in the first place) or got stuck half way through. This book has dozens of topics and ideas to spur you on, and ways to jog your memory. It also has several writing activities for those who are on their own. Since her class I have written three books, other than my memoirs, and Your Legacy has been my go-to book—my bible. I rely on it totally. You will too.

• Jeff Walton • My grandkids kept bugging me to get my stories down on paper so they wouldn’t get forgotten. I meant to, but kept not doing it. Then one of them gave me a copy of  Your Legacy. I wished I was in one of the author’s classes, but she’s in Reno and I’m in Toronto. This book is the next best thing. It makes it easy. I read it cover-to-cover before getting started…probably procrastinating, but I’m glad I did. I’m getting the job done and my kids and grandkids are learning things about me that they never imagined. I’m not sure that’s a good thing, but they like it.

I learned that it’s important to write your stories, not just talk them into a recording device or a video camera, and make several copies, and pass them out to people in different places. So no matter what happens—fire, flood, typhoon, cyclone—at least one copy will survive to go down through generations. That’s just a tiny fraction of what I learned from this book. I learned it’s OK to let it all hang out … just to be myself so my readers in years to come can know the real me.
